Love's in need of love......

This started off as a post to facebook but it was moving in a different direction so I decided to create a blog. I am not one to publicly share my feelings about world or social events nor do I make many comments about those things BUT today I will share my heart. I received a call from my oldest daughter asking me if I heard about the shooting at the school. My first thought went to my 17 y/o who is a high school student. My heart stopped as I asked what school and she said the one in Ct. I did breath a sigh of relief but instantly I felt sad. I learn that children and teachers had been killed by a person who at one time attended that school and his mother was a teacher. I listened to people rant about the poor children (and I agree) I also had compassion for the families of both the victims and the shooter. All of their lives have been forever changed. In my opinion the events that occurred yesterday and all other previous events represent OUR lack of love, compassion, grace and mercy towards one another. We live in a world where if look, think or feel different from the mass majority then something is wrong with you and you become a victim of criticism, judgement and sometimes ostracized. You are either beautiful or ugly, fat or skinny, smart or dumb. All of these words have an affect on people and some do better than others in dealing with all of the ism's and schism's of life. I believe that deep down everyone has love within them but like the body when it is not given the proper amount of nutrients it dies and transforms into a different form(in this instance it becomes hate, fear or as some would say evil). And everyone's breaking point is different. There are reports that mention that the shooter had some mental challenges. Most of the people who commit such crimes are victims themselves. Victims of abuse, mental illness in their family, lack of love and or attention etc. Mental illness is real and too often we ignore, ridicule or poke fun at people who suffer from this illness. Mental illness is like a cancer that eats at the mind and causes people to suffer. We go all out to deal with physical illness but little is done for mental illness. Anger is also venomous and can spiral downward in the blink of an eye or it acts as a long smoldering spark that ignites when least expected. Combine the two and it is disastrous. If we loose control of either situation we cannot control the outcome of the disaster. Whatever your life/spiritual path is please make sure it connects you to moving towards love, kindness, mercy, grace, compassion...and moves you away from fear, anger, judgement etc. I believe that we all are the Light of the world and collectively we can overcome darkness Stevie Wonder wrote a song that simply says it all..."Love's in need of love today. Don't delay send yours in right away. Hate's going round breaking many hearts stop it please before it's gone to far"
