What a way to start off the New Year!
With a cold I mean a BAD COLD ? borderline flu. I have been off work since Jan 5. Tried to go to work(sick) on Jan 4th(NOT SMART) even my coworker looked at me and said "Damn Dee you look real bad" I stayed almost 4 more hours after that. I am just starting to feel better and thanks to the snow/ice storm here in GA God gave me a few more days to really feel better because I would have gone back to work on this past Tues but our company has been closed since Monday.
Now as a nurse I KNOW BETTER and I am always telling people to stay home when they are sick.
Was it because I did not have enough sick time HELL NO!!! Was it because I have a terrible boss HELL NO!! Was it because of lack of coverage TRIPLE HELL NO!!!
WHY did I stay? One word my own GUILT
I felt bad because my coworker had just returned from her vacation and it was the first week since before Christmas(I was on vacation before her) that both of us would be back at work. Was she mad HELL NO. She was mad that I did not go home earlier than I did.
Guilt is a big emotional brick that prevails over my life. I am sure I am not alone so I decided to counsel and encourage myself in this blog.
I read this article on Guilt on Ubanmonk.net
"Guilt was never a rational thing; it distorts all the faculties of the human mind, it perverts them, it leaves a man no longer in the free use of his reason, it puts him into confusion.
~ Edmund Burke
Guilt is, simply put, a wrong notion. Guilt is paralysing, destructive. You think you have done something you shouldn’t have; you hadn’t done something you should have.
Guilt is the false idea that you could have done better; that you had the power to choose. But if you look deeply into it, you will see that you were helpless. There was simply no choice."
Guilt is like a HUGE hammer that is over your head ready to pounce whenever it is allowed to. Once it starts hammering it does not stop. It will have you cowering in a corner afraid to move. BUT we have to realize that we have a stronger and more a powerful authority over the enemy of guilt and it is the Spirit of God that is within us. He has given us power to subdue whatever is trying to overcome us(including guilt)
Regardless to if the guilt was "valid" or not. We cannot live our lives with the brick of guilt over us. Stop feeding guilt! IF there is something you need to learn, find out what you need to learn and move on!
Until my next thought!!!!!
Nice blog. I am guilty of the guilt complex too and it is like a hammer as you described. I will do better in 2011!
ReplyDeleteI must be on crack because there are very few things I feel guilty about. LOL. Once I make up my mind, I'm all in, ride or die. If I get it right, I enjoy the rewards. If I get it wrong, I suffer the consequences knowing to make a better choice next time. Either way, it is what it is.
ReplyDeleteThis was an excellent blog, as you revealed your realness. I greatly appreciate it. It is the way to reach people and truly touch them. This is a gift for you. Continue to share God to the world through your words.
Great job and much love!
